A Girl Child Talk For Change Initiative
“A Girl Child Talk for Change” is a collaborative initiative authored by Djam Joyceline Nabi in Cameroon. The initiative seeks to address critical challenges affecting the growth, education, and wellbeing of the girl child, particularly in underprivileged communities. The initiative launched on February 15th, 2026
Mission
The mission of this initiative is to build a supportive society where the girl child is empowered with confidence, a strong voice, high self-esteem, and, above all, access to optimal health and proper sanitation.
The Problem / Challenge

Many girls face significant barriers growing up that hinder their educational and personal development. These challenges include:

PMenstrual Poverty (SDG 6: Hygiene)

Limited or no access to sanitary pads, leading to frequent school absenteeism and, in severe cases, complete school dropout.

PInadequate Sanitation (SDG 6: Sanitation)

Lack of basic sanitary facilities and hygiene materials.

PSafety and Trauma
- Exposure to rape, sexual violence, and related abuses.

PPsychological Barriers
Low self-esteem, fear, and lack of confidence.

PEarly Life Transitions
Early marriages and early pregnancies that disrupt education and future opportunities.
Solution

To effectively respond to these problems/ challenges, the initiative is structured around three key pillars:

P1. Provision
- Distribution of environmentally-friendly sanitary pads to underprivileged girls.
- Provision of complete Sanitary Kits.
Proposed Sanitary Kit Contents include:
- Sanitary pads
- Bath soap
- Extra underwear
- Small towel or reusable cloth
- Educational pamphlet on menstrual hygiene and self-care

P2. Education
- Interactive workshops on self-esteem and confidence building
- Reproductive health education
- Awareness on the consequences of early marriage and early pregnancy
- General life-skills education to support academic and personal growth

P3. Empowerment
- Practical skill-building sessions aimed at fostering independence
- Mentorship and motivation talks to help girls discover and believe in their potential
Target Audience
The project intends to begin with selected public primary and secondary schools ( Government bilingual high School logpom), government technical high School bonaberi, focusing mostly on the internally displaced girls( IDPs) , and vulnerable communities, prioritizing areas where menstrual poverty, school dropout rates, and sanitation challenges are most prevalent. Expansion to additional schools and communities will follow based on impact and available resources.
Estimated Impact

PPhased Approach Estimate:
- Girls: Approximately 150 – 300 students per session (depending on the school size)
- Women (teachers/mentors/parents): Approximately 20 – 50 participants.
Implemented across 3–5 schools, the total projected impact is:
- Girls: 450 – 1,500
- Women: 60 – 250

Pilot
“A Girl Child Talk for Change” is planned to start with a pilot program and gradually expand to reach more schools and communities over time.
Conclusion
“A Girl Child Talk for Change” seeks not only to provide material support but also to restore dignity, confidence, and hope to the girl child. We strongly believe that with the right partnerships and support, this initiative can create lasting change.
